Trafikverket - GIS Architecture & Maintenance
Bringing Structure to Critical Infrastructure Data
Case Study - Transport Infrastructure Systems & GIS
From Fragmented Data to Functioning Systems
Complex transport infrastructure doesn't just demand operational expertise, it depends on the information systems behind it being robust, well-governed, and properly maintained. When those systems fall out of alignment, the operational consequences surface quickly and visibly.
The Challenge
“Combining strategic architecture thinking with the ability to resolve technical challenges at ground level.”
This was a genuinely multi-layered engagement. Responsibilities spanned full project leadership, complete GIS system architecture, and direct, hands-on technical support, both to internal team members and to Trafikverket's own system developers, requiring fluency across both strategic and highly technical conversations. A dedicated workstream focused specifically on the Citytunnel systems, where fragmented data structures had accumulated over time. That work involved bringing genuine order to the data, untangling inconsistencies, and producing targeted, practical recommendations for sustainable long-term maintenance going forward.
The Approach
The Outcome
The engagement demonstrated something that's often talked about but rarely delivered in practice: the ability to combine high-level strategic architecture thinking with the hands-on capability to resolve real technical challenges at ground level, in the same engagement, for the same client.
